Marvelous, magnificent Musical

Kia ora everyone and welcome back to my blog. The past week has been very yucky and wet but fingers crossed it will be sunny soon and we'll all be able to hang out with our friends and family outside. For the last two weeks in literacy, Shaw literacy learnt about the horror which was really fun since it is my favourite genre. This week in literacy, we learnt about music and movies or scenes from any musical we know. Our first task for the week was to research the genre musical and answer the questions that our literacy teacher had given us. Next, we had to find 2 different musicals and find/note down the similarities between them both. At first, I didn't like the genre musical but then when I watched some movies or some episodes I really started to like the genre musical. We had to write down what we knew about this genre. Here is an example of what I did...

I found this task creative and very simple to because we got to choose what movies we thought the similarities were. I like the sound of music very much and I haven't quite seen Singin in the rain but I've heard so many things about it, that's how I know. I think musicals sound happy and joyful because the person in the movie that's singing the song isn't sad or worried. Have you studied a genre before? Have you seen the Sound of Music or Singin in the rain? Thanks for stopping by and reading my post. See you next time!

Brilliant bundles of BEDMAS

Hello everyone and welcome back to another week of my sharing you what I've learnt. Yay, it's nearly the weekend and you can finally relax. Some of the days throughout this week have been absolutely terrible, but we are lucky enough that a couple of days were not wet and miserable. In math on Monday, my maths group did a recap on BEDMAS and answered 10 easy questions. I started learning about BEDMAS when I was around year 5 and it was really easy to learn and pick up on. We were mostly practising our exponents because some of us were struggling with trying to solve the exponents in a test we did about 2 weeks ago. I'm going to show you the questions that we had to answer and the answer that went with a specific question. Here are the questions that we had to answer and the equations...

I found Monday's task really easy and fun to do because it didn't take much time but it was fun to work them out. BEDMAS is a creative and challenging way to get better at solving problems that your not sure about. I'll tell you to what each individual letter in BEDMAS stands for. B stands for Brackets, E stands for Exponents, D stands for Division, M stands for Multiplication, A stands for Addition and finally S stands for Subtraction. Thank you for reading my 1st blog post. I'm looking forward to experiencing the new and exciting thing in my last year of intermediate. Next week is the last week of term 2 and then we have a full 2 weeks of relaxing and doing whatever we want! Have you learnt BEDMAS before? Do you think it's easy or hard?

Brainy and brilliant Binary

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog. What a terrible week we have been having this week, but I hope the weather turns sunny during the weekend. This week on Wednesday we finished learning about Binary and ASCII. We have done some practice and learnt about it before lockdown but we didn't quite get enough time to finish our sessions. On Wednesday we learnt and figured out what our names and initials were in ASCII/Binary.

Binary is a number system that uses 1’s and 0’s to represent all of our normal set of numbers.  You can use the place values as multiples of 2 to work out how to do it for yourself!  Try watching this video to give it a go yourself! ASCII is a set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials into binary numbers, and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colours to represent the 1’s and 0’s, my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below!

Here is what I created and the pattern it is in. I really like the colours and how it turned out. I haven't tried anything like this before but it was good to learn and create my own piece of Binary/ASCII. What do you think?  Have you ever tried encoding anything in binary or ASCII?  Could you have a try for yourself?  Can you work out how to write my initials in ASCII from the pattern above? See you next blog post!

Situational stacks of irony

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog. I forgot to post this so here it is. Over the past few weeks, the Toroa hub has been learning all about Irony. If you didn't already know what Irony means, I'll explain to you what it means. Irony means sarcasm,
the expression of someone's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect. Everybody has used it before no matter what, you use it without knowing and shown it in a way that you try not to do anything or something like that. There are three types of Irony, one is Situational Irony, another is Dramatic Irony and the last one is verbal Irony. They have different meanings behind each of them and is presented differently also.

Our task was to complete a Comic strip that shows how we show or understand Irony itself. We could go in buddies and work hard to complete this in the time that we had. We got to choose throughout the different Ironies, what one we wanted to show or do the most. My friend and I decided to do Situational Irony because we both have been in a situation just like situational Irony. We had to do about 4 photos that showed our findings or explanation. It took her and me a long time because we kept changing ideas and when we finally got to what we thought was the final outcome, we changed and had to redo it. Here is the result that took us ages...
This was really fun to do and learn about. I like how we learnt about all three Ironies and got to chosse from them all. We had a really good go at it even though we had to keep going back and redo it. I really liked how it turned out and how we didn't know at first but then continued to try and try, then after that, we finally finished our Situational Irony Comic Strip.

Do you like how we did it and how it turned out? Have you leart about Irony before? Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog post. Would you be able to say what you think I did wrong or what I did right or even what you like about this post? See you next blog post!

Important, Iregular issues worldwide

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. It has been a really annoying week this week because in the morning it's cold then suddenly halfway through the day it's warm. This week we continued to learn and focus on global issues during our inquiry time. There were 12 pictures and 12 different groups in each different part of the class. The pictures were of artwork describing and showing the audience what was going on during Covid-19. Then we had to write what we think the picture means and how we thought it impacted the world. The photos were really interesting and showed me how much Covid-19 impacted on the globe.

After we did that, we went off by ourselves and had to choose a photo from before. We had to decide on one that we thought was the most interesting and important in the globe. I decided to do a photo that represents people being racist and that a little girl couldn't go to school because people were being racist. We had to explain why it was important to us and how it shows the most perseverance and interest out of them all.

I think that this photo is important because I don't like people being racist to other people especially if it offends them a lot. It is really important to remember that people can't help being the colour that they are born with. Sometimes people get really offended by people calling them names about the colour of their skin, and then they go and call the police on them. Sometimes the police get involved. It's really sad that children at a young age have to go through such a terrible time and situation. People die because of their race, but that shouldn't and wouldn't happen if racism wasn't a thing and people who are being racist, should get put in jail no warnings.

I have enjoyed learning so much about Racism and global issues in the past 1-2 weeks, and really excited to find out more. I like this photo because it is really interesting and informing to me because it shows and reminds me of the protests that have been going on in America for a while. I really like learning about this stuff so then I know what is wrong and right for people to say and do. People shouldn't have to protest to be able to go to school or work. It really heartbreaking because I care a lot about smaller things. Thank you for reading my 1st blog post for this week. I will be updating you more and more during this term. Have you learnt about Global Issues? Do you know what racism is? See you next time!

Kindly knowledgeable Koru

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog,
I hope you liked the last blog post I did that showed you information and problems that are happening in the world right now. In this blog post, I'm going to be sharing with you what I have been learning and creating on Fridays for Art/Maori. We started to draw out the pattern that we wanted on the piece of paper that was going to be short an amazing Koru artpiece. Once we finished our drawing, we then used a sharpie or a vivid to go around the edges of our korus or lines. Next, we coloured in all our patterns and korus in with pastels to make it colourful. After we finished that process, we were allowed to pick a colour of dye to colour the background in, so that it would look way better and pop way more.

I didn't add as many patterns as everyone else, so then it wouldn't have so much going on and it won't look crowded at all. I added some small and big korus, as well as some lines to make it different to everyone else's Koru art. I coloured the korus in different colours except for the smaller and same-sized ones which were coloured all the same colour. Here is the design that I created and worked hard on...

I really liked how my koru art turned out and how much it popped after I added the dye. I chose to add the colour green for the dye because I thought it would be nice to try something different rather than having the background black or something original. I did the colour green for the dye background. I coloured the main koru in light green and the medium-sized one in bright yellow. I coloured one of the ferns in brown, another one in blue and the last one in a silver-grey colour, close to white.

Overall I really like how my koru art turned out and I defiantly will try koru art again because it is so fun and creative to do and make. And, next time I could maybe add more patterns and designs on it. I will keep trying to get one that has different designs. Let me know if there is anything you like about it and maybe something that I need to work on so that I can make it better next time.

Do you like how it turned out? Is there anything you like about it? Thanks for taking the time and reading my blog post. I really enjoy making all types of blog posts. Next blog post, I might do a numeracy one because I haven't done one of those for a long time. But what posts do you want to see from me? See you next time
