Mysterious magic squares

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog. It was sad when I had to go back to school after a fun and adventurous holiday, but it was good to get back into the daily routine. It was so exciting and cool this week because we got to catch up with our friends and do some fun learning. Today I'm going to be showing you what I learnt in maths this week because it was really fun and I think you will if you try it out yourself. We learnt about magic squares which were cool because I haven't learnt about them before. Magic squares look kind of challenging but when you get into it and learn about it more you'll see their really easy. The rules are simples. You have 3 numbers and there has to be one of the 3 numbers in each line, going diagonal, vertical and horizontal. Each of the lines has to add up to the same number. Here is an example that I did...

They were really fun especially the challenging ones. As you can see the numbers I have used are really high and are all even numbers. First, we started off with numbers adding up to 15, then as we progressed through the week, we got into the higher range of numbers and the squares were a lot harder to do. I found that with even numbers, it was way easier to complete and didn't take as much time as the uneven numbers one. That is it for this blog post and I will be sharing with you some more things on what I did throughout the week. Thanks for reading my blog post! See you next time. Did you have a good holiday? Have you learnt about magic squares before?

Super, southern lights

Hello bloggers and welcome back to the last blog post of term 2. Term 2 has been cool but our time in our hub has been cut short due to COVID-19, but other than that it has been terrific. In the last couple of weeks on Friday, the Toroa hub has been learning about Matariki and what happens in the time frame. Matariki is celebrated around sometime around July each year. If the stars are clear and bright, it is a sign that it would be a good crop and harvesting season for the farmers planting. If the stars were hazy and closely bunched together, cold winter was about to happen and planting will then be delayed until sometime in October.

There are multiple amazing and interesting facts about southern lights! Did you know that the meaning behind "Aurora" is the Latin word for sunrise or the Roman Goddess of dawn? An Aurora is a natural light shown in the sky, usually is a greenish colour but it sometimes is red or blue. In the southern hemisphere latitudes, the outcome and is known as the Australis(or the southern lights). Aurora is caused by the impact of actively charged pieces with particles in the high elevation of thermosphere or atmosphere.

Yay, it's finally the last day and I'm super excited to finally go home and have a restful 2 week holiday. I loved working on this art piece because it was so fun and creative to make. the colours are vibrant and perfect for the sky. I'm pleased with how my Matariki art turned out and I hope we can do other art like this in the future. There are multiple stories and things that happen in Matariki, they are really interesting so you should read a book or a movie about it. Have you learnt about Matariki before? What are your plans for the holiday? Have a good holiday!
