Vandrable, Valuable Voki

Hi everyone,
Omg!! It is already day three of being stuck in my house. I hope you all have been staying safe and not bored at home. I decided to make a Voki for one of my activities since I haven't done it before and I thought they would be really cool. I decided for the body to do a dog since I love them so much and I think they're really cute. It was really cool and it only took me like 5 minutes, but I explored through the bodies for a lot of time. I hope you can try it out as well. This is how my Voki turned out:

It was really fun to experiment since it was my very first time doing it. I hope you got some idea of what it is and how to use it. Have you tried this before? See you next time I post!!

Charming, cool Code Combat

Hi Everyone,
Because of the Corona Virus our school in lockdown so we aren't able to be taught out usual things. Our teachers set tasks for us to do in each subject and we have to get at least 3 activities done a day throughout the subjects. For today's activity for me too blog, I chose to try out Code Combat since I haven't tried it out before. It was really fun to do but a bit challenging at the same time because I had to figure out the right codes for the person to get to the gems, without being seen by the ogre and without getting blown up by the bombs. These are some of the photos of what I did:

It was really fun to experiment. I hope you are all staying safe in your homes and hopefully, we will be back at school soon. What are you guys planning to do in the time that we are at home? I would really like to know because I get super bored when I'm not doing anything. See you next blog post!!

Fun and spontaneous Narrative

Kiaora Bloggers,

For the last couple of weeks Shaw literacy has been working on a mystery story to practise how to write a narrative. We had to write at least 2 pages of our narrative as narratives are quite long. We had to write about the genre Mystery because our teacher thought it would be cool for us to start writing narratives about Mystery. This is my story.

It was a cold and stormy Monday morning, with only a few clouds in sight. When everything suddenly happened out of the blue. As they were waking up from their 10-hour sleep, the grandparents thought something was happening but they didn’t know what it was, so they kept living their everyday morning routine. In a small, old cottage there were two little girls that only just started primary school and a just-married couple that were the grandparents to the little girls.

“Don’t you think something is a little bit odd this morning?” Asked the married granny.
“Well no, if something was odd we would have surely noticed what it was” Answered the husband.
“Well true, i’ll just start making breakfast to try getting my mind off it” Spoke the granny.
“Yes you do that then, while you’re at it will you be able to pour me a cup of tea because I seem a bit thirsty today?”Asked the grandpa.

So Granny got to work, preparing breakfast and making her new husband a cup of tea. Time went by faster than the newlyweds expected, the girls just woke up and the mail guy just stopped by to deliver their weekly mail that comes from all over the world. Then they all got together to eat their maple syrup on waffles, and for the girls Grandpa to sip on his tasty tea that they make from scratch every Monday. Suddenly, before their eyes, the couch started to disappear and they thought they were seeing things, but they weren't. Seconds after the couch disappeared, they then started to worry alot about what was happening.

“Ahh Granny, didn’t you used to have a couch there or did it randomly just disappear?”Asked one of the little girls named Ana.
“Yeah, I agree with what Ana asked” Joined Ellie.

Secretly without them knowing, the dining table slowly floated away in the fresh cold air. After they were finished eating their breakfast they got up, washed the dishes and got ready for the day. While the little girls were finishing getting ready for the day, they mysteriously heard a massive loud, thud near the end of the old cottage. The pair of them wanted to investigate a bit more, so they trotted about 5 cm down past their Granny and Grandpa’s room, shortly after theirs. The ancient, wooden door that had been standing there for longer than their Granny and Grandpa’s birth, just all of a sudden, vanished.

“Girls, what are you doing to make all that noise?”Panicky spoke Granny
“Ana, do you know if our Granny and Grandpa took the door out before we heard that loud noise?”Worriedly asked Ellie.
“I don’t think so, they would have told us before anyways”Answered Ana.

Grandpa had finally realised that it could be that evaporating mystery again. Nothing appeared to be weird for another two hours, so they didn’t know what to do with themselves for that long of time. Granny suggested that they walk down to their local park but that was about half an hour by car, but by foot it would be like two hours if they all went. Quietly, they decided to read a book to keep their minds off the vanishing and to keep them individually occupied. Time past by quickly when they were already getting bored from reading for 10 minutes straight.

Soon after, they laid their books down on their bed and hurried to where their Granny was calling them. What did you little mischievous do to my napping chair that was sitting here while I was in the kitchen making your lunch? They had no clue what she was talking about, they also thought a little about it being their Grandpa. Moments later, they were both glaring at their Grandpa with the most evilest look that they have ever seen on anybody, even the witch hasn’t even shown that face in her whole 5 years of being the most famous with. Together as a team the two little girls and their granny discussed who they think it could be and “it’s not Grandpa” Explained the Granny.

The front door slammed wide open and the tiny paintings on the wall fell off with a loud thud on the cracked, black carpet. It was someone with black hair and a tiny, twig-like body. The girls were scared and the Grandparents were worried about what the mysterious person would do to their Granddaughters. Powerfully, with humongously, black shoes he walked closer to the Grandparents and their Granddaughters. Granny thought that they were all going to die and that this will be their very last memory, that they had in their life but it wasn’t.

“Hello” spoke the mystery person.
“Hello, now who are you?” asked the Granny
“I’m the mysterious guy who has been doing something to the world” answered the mysterious stalker.
“You don’t look like you do stuff to the world because you look like an absolute stalker” complained the old Grandpa.

Scarcely looking into the eyes of each other, they all had an annoying look that sparkled in the daylight.  He took a step closer to them all and his ears pricked up a loud panicking noise from the Grandparents. The newly married husband started to open his mouth but nothing came out, and he was so surprised about it all. The mysterious man decided to own up to what he did otherwise the police would take him into jail and never be seen again.
“It was me, who did all the disappearing” admitted the man.
“Well you did know that magic isn’t real and it was probably my Grandchildren messing around right?” angrily replied the Grandmother.

Then in a drop of rain, he magically disappeared and he left the family terrified. And that was the end of them seeing the disappearing. That's when everything suddenly returned to their normal places.

I hope you like my story and how I've presented it. Have you started your literacy sessions yet and have you written a Mystery Narrative story before?

Samoan Number game

Hi Bloggers,

We have been learning about Samoan on Wednesdays and for the last couple of weeks, we have been learning how to count to ten. I found this really easy to do as it is quite similar to numbers in Maori. Today we have used scratch to create a programme that would show and teach people how to count to ten in Samoan. Check it out! Can you count to ten in any other Language?

Samoan Numbers

Kiaora Bloggers,
On Wednesday's with Mrs Osborn, we have been learning Samoan and their culture. Today's task was to complete an animation about Samoan numbers from 1-10. This is the animation that I and a buddy did. We have learnt the alphabet and some facts about Samoa. I hope you enjoy my animation.

Have you learnt Samoan before and have you visited?

Coding/Binary

Kiaora Bloggers,

On Wednesdays, with Mr Gillstrem we have been learning how to binary code and tips and hacks to do it. We only do this once a week because we have tec on Wednesdays so we don't do the same rotation. This weeks activity was to complete a drawing on a table that uses only black to make the picture. 0=White and 1=Black. Here are the binary numbers, see if you can work it out.

0000000000
0011001100

My Sestina

Kiaora Bloggers,
Today in Literacy, my literacy group has been writing a Sestina poem. This is my Sestina poem for New Zealand writing. We will be sending it up to a school in Hamilton called Fairfield Intermediate. We are really looking forward to reading theirs and finding out what the students did for their poem. We had to write six lines with only 6 random words in it. The theme was you're going on a journey.

This is my Sestina:
Mr Pink Foot with two heads
I nearly got ran over sadly
My aunt Lucy and her daughter
A pool full of frozen raspberry
Wanted to get away from school
I hate bananas but love popcorn

The rules were, you need to have something that you saw, something that you remember, people or the person you are with, a wonderful imagined thing that didn't actually happen, a reason for going on a journey. Hope you liked my Sestina poem, is there anything I can improve on? Have you written a Sestina poem before and are you doing this New Zealand writing that I'm doing as well?

Fun, fantastic family tree

Kia ora Bloggers,
For the last couple of weeks for Inquiry, the Toroa hub has been focusing on our family geography. First, we had to find out where our family was born and where they came from, then we had to complete a family tree, that shows everyone on our mum's side and then our dad's family. My family comes from all over the world, my Mum's mum comes from New Zealand and her dad comes from England. My dad's dad comes from England, his stepdad comes from New Zealand and his mum comes from Scotland.

This is my Mum's side:

This is my dad's side:

My dad's family is way bigger than my mum's as there are more couples and children in his Family tree. Have you done a family tree before and where are you from the world?
