Spanish Animation

This week in the Toroa Hub some of us have been swimming, therefore we didn't have Literacy and numeracy. One of the teachers has been teaching the whole hub Spanish, and we had to make a Screen Castify of our animation and pronouncing the Spanish words that the Llamas were saying. Did you guys like it? Have you learnt Spanish before?

Week 8 swimming task

For this week at school, Toroa has been going in groups to swimming. I don't go swimming so we are expected to do 3 of the tasks. Last week we had different tasks because if we had the same ones we will be able to copy and paste all the work. This is just one of the tasks. We had to go in groups of 3 so that we weren't wasting much paper. Do you guys go swimming, and is it compulsory. Hopefully, you guys liked our Tiny House!!

This week in Maths, Davies Maths group have been learning how to do harder BEDMAS problems. If you didn't know what BEDMAS is it stands for brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition and finally subtraction. These are just a couple of BEDMAS problems that we have worked out individually. Have you guys learned BEDMAS, will you know what the will be before you have seen my working out?

BEDMAS Animation

Last week the Davies Maths group started an animation on how to use BEDMAS. We have learnt BEDMAS for a term and I think it is really fun and easy to do. I have put together 2 questions to show you what I have learnt about BEDMAS. If you think I have done it wrong or the question isn't right please tell me so that I can know my mistake and make sure I get it right next time I do BEDMAS. Have you learnt about BEDMAS before?

African Art

This term for Inquiry the Toroa hub has been learning about different countries. I have been in Japanese and Inuit/Canada. I posted the Japanese slide so if you want to see that you will be able to. We have been doing three sessions for each country. First, we learnt about Africa then we created an Adobe Spark to show our findings and what we have learnt about this country. Hope you guys enjoy learning about it. Have you ever been to Africa or ever learnt about it?

Afghanistan vs New Zealand

Hi everybody and welcome back to my blog, this is my second task for this week. This task was to get some photos and some words of what it is like and some restrictions from Afghanistan and New Zealand.  These are just some of the ideas that I thought of that were from these two countries. I think that Afghanistan is stricter than New Zealand because they don't have as many allowances. Have you guys been out of New Zealand and where have you gone?

Japanese Art

For Inquiry this term we are looking and learning about different cultures and what the culture means. This is one of the cultures Japanese, but there are two other ones Canadian and African which the other teachers are going to teach us. What is your favourite tradition in New Zealand and what is your favourite country? If you have got any feedback for me please let me know so that in the future when I do this I will use your feedback to mack it better!!!

Term 4 Math Goals

This Term in my Math group we are setting our Brick goals.

My Brick goals include the brick numbers 26, 27 and 28. This means that I'm learning how to convert fractions to decimals, Division rules for 4, 6 and 8 and then the simple powers up to 10.

I will practice these for at least two times a week if not more for 20-30 minutes for each Brick number. We will check how much I have progressed in about 3 weeks time.

For this Term in Inquiry, the Toroa hub has been split into small groups for the term. The group that I'm in is the Online Media Group. This group learns about Online Media and how it works. Refugee week 9

Last week in the book Refugee we had to read from page 284 to 336. After that, we got to choose out an activity for week 9. In week 8 I did Research so last week I chose to create a red cross about the Refugees. This is my week nine create. Persuasive Writing-Why families should spend more time together

Imagine being home alone all day when you could spend time with siblings or your family members? I strongly believe that as a child, it is really important to spend time with your loved ones and have a really great time with them. You will then have a fuller heart after spending time with them because they support you and your feelings even when you don’t ask them to, they also stick up for you when you are getting hurt or bullied.

Did you know that you need to build a good, healthy relationship with members in your family? I personally believe that this is important because spending time with your kids teaches them how to be great parents ( when they are older). This means they will want to share their life and have fun with each other when the kids are older. 

I think that families should spend more time together because they need to learn to communicate with each other. When your spending time together you could give your family a lot of motivation for their life ahead. They could also help you with any struggles that you have or had in your life. This is because the kids will then feel way more secure and feel like it is ok to talk to their parents about anything.

Have you ever noticed that spending time with your family develops positive behaviours? A fact is that your kids at school could have a chance that they might get mad or talking negatively about other children. I believe that having a positive behaviour could boost your advantages of getting any leadership or boss roles in school or work. Families tend to have a really good time together, make really cool jokes together and saying things nice about each other,  so your family members will fill others buckets and make them feel way happier so they won’t lash out at anyone.

I strongly advise you that you and your family should spend more time together, so they could learn how to communicate with each other. This is important because spending time together could give your family a lot of motivation for their life ahead. They could also help you with any struggles that you have or had in your life. For term 3, Davos Literacy group has been learning all about Persuasive Writing. First, we looked at adverts and how they are Persuasive, then we looked at pieces of writing that were already written and highlight the persuasive words in the writing piece. After that, we got to choose what Persuasive writing we would like to write about. I chose to write about why families should spend more time together. This week in the book Refugee we had to read from page 191-235. After that, we got to choose out an activity to do for week 7. Last week I did a poster so this week I want to do vocabulary, one of the other weeks I did vocabulary and now I'm doing it again, but with different words. This is my Week 7 Create. How to divide animation

Last week on Monday and Tuesday my maths group was learning how to divide. On Thursday we got to make an animation to show that we understand dividing numbers. You could do it with a buddy or by yourself, I chose to do it with a buddy so that we could speed up the process. Do you guys know how to divide? Do you find it easy or hard?

Week 6 Create

This week in the book Refugee we had to read from page 147-191. After that, we got to choose out an activity to do for week 6. My reading group didn't do any tasks in week 5 because our teachers gave us time to complete any unfinished literacy work. In week 4 I chose to do Syrian pounds and New Zealand dollars, but this week I chose to make a poster with the slogan "Fight the impossible and win".

Week 4 Refugee

This week in the Book Refugee we had to read up to page 105 to 146. After that, we got to choose out an activity to do for week 4. Last week I chose Research so this week I decided to do another activity to last weeks so I chose Maths. All you had to do is answer the maths questions. The conversion is in Syrian pounds so please correct my maths work if I'm wrong. I found this a bit easy because you could use a calculator to convert. from New Zealand dollars to Syrian Pounds.

Easy, Affordable Ice- Cube Container

Throughout this term, Davos Literacy group is going to be working on Persuasive Writing. We had to do a persuasive advertisement and I chose the ice cube advertisement. You could do animation or a poster, I chose a poster because it was really simple and I don't really like creating animations. I did mine with a buddy so it would be a bit easier to complete it.

Research

Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler was a German politician and the leader of the Nazi Party.
He was born on April 20th 1889, in Braunau am Inn Austria.
He was one of the most powerful and famous dictators of the 20th Century. 

Adolf was one of eight siblings, three sisters and four brothers.
His parents were Alois Hitler and Klara Polzl.
Unluckily, dying at aged 56 years old, 30th April 1945.
His first job was the service in World War 1, then he rested and then went
back to work for World War 1. 

In 1932, he ran against the war hero Paul Von Hindenburg for president and received 36.8 per cent of the vote. With the government in chaos, three successive chancellors failed to maintain control, and in late January 1933 Hindenburg named the 43-year-old Hitler as chancellor, capping the stunning rise of an unlikely leader.

This week in the book Refugee we had to read from page 56 to 104. After we did that we got to choose out an activity to do. Last week I chose Vocabulary but this week I want to do a different one so I chose Research and you had to choose either Adolf Hitler, Bash Al Assad or Fidel Castro. I researched about Adolf Hitler because I wanted to know a little bit about him.

Orangutan- stop ruining our homes

For writing this term we are looking at persuasive language. This is an animation to persuade you that the Orangutans need protecting. Their environment is getting destroyed for the production of Palm Oil. We can stop this by buying products that contain Palm Oil.

Week 2 Refugee

This term Davos Literacy is learning and reading about the book Refugee. Each week we have a set amount of pages to read in the week.  At the end of each week, we have some options that we could do for the creative part of Literacy. I chose Vocabulary, all I had to do for that was to find the meanings of some words.

Toroa Wearable Arts

Throughout this Term, in Inquiry, Toroa has been learning about plastic. We learnt what you can and can't recycle. Then we got into groups to start working on our own Wearable Arts. The group that I was in had a theme about a party and we named it the After Party because everything that we used to create the dress you use at parties and the things you can't recycle.

My Haiku

Today in my Literacy group, we have been working and learning about Haiku. This is the one I did on a Haiku generator. If you didn't Haiku is a famous Japanese poem and it is really fun to do.

Once Poem

Felix was young, his parents were gone

Living at an orphanage, everything had gone wrong

He left on a search, he thought they were alive

On his way, he found a girl who was lucky to survive

The Nazis found them and took them to the city

Felix had taken on a lot of responsibility

A man came to help and took them somewhere safe

It wasn’t long until the Nazis found their place

They were marched to a station and forced on a train

There were lots of people in there that were all in pain

People were scared and smashed a hole in the side

Felix jumped out and made it while others died

This term our Literacy group has been working on poetry. We had a choice to do a poem about Once or the war since we have been reading about both of those. I chose Once because I like it way better than the option of the war

Character Description on Rock

This week we have been working on our character descriptions, we could choose between Scissors, Paper or Rock and I chose Roch because, in my opinion, I thought he was the nice and friendliest one out of them all. Here is an easy ling to where we got these ideas from. Scissors, Paper and Rock video clip



Rock is a friendly, caring, kind person who is covered with sharp edges that were once broken. Rock has a retired look with manly muscles and large bushy eyebrows. While his back is covered with moss, during his bulky gorilla body travels across the ground.

Happily, Rock always has feelings for everybody.  Literally, his gravely rough back gives you goosebumps, as he is such a lifesaver to some people because he helps people in need. Rock has a crinkled, loving look on his sad growling face.

As he gorillied over to the gravel stone mountain he peeked over to see the woman of his dreams Paper. He saw some ninja Scissors trying to kill Paper, and boom, Rock leapt onto the flat surface to save Paper. Happily, Paper is still swiftly floating around in the air of midday through the deadly forest, glaring at the beautiful pollen flowers.

My Maths evidence Slide

This is my math evidence slide, where everything that I do in mathematics goes, to show everybody the work that I have been doing throughout the whole year. I have got the title and the date that I did the work on the slide.

Animal Enlargements

This week in Davies Math group, we have been working on enlargements. After we did the enlargements we were able to complete an animal one.

Geometric patterns

Between week 3 and week 5 Davies Maths group has been learning about transformations. We did this to show our knowledge of rotation, reflection and translation. Please give me some comments to help me with my translations.

Ruamoko- god of Earthquakes

On fridays at maori time we have been doing some colouring ins to show what we have been doing on friday when some people go to kapa haka. We had to colour in a Maori god and I chose Ruamoko-God of Earthquakes.

Once Novel Study

This term in my reading group we have been reading the book Once. We had some follow up tasks that we have set for the end of the week. This is my work that I have completed throughout the reading sessions.

My new math goal ladder

 I will carry this on to next term so that when I get older I'll know how to develop my understanding of decimals, fractions and percentages. I'm not very proud of how I worked because I forgot what my goal was for this term. I made absolutely no progress since the start of term.

My new writing goal ladder

I have achieved most of my writing goals but I just need to do a little bit more work on the one that I am focusing on now. The easiest part was the re-explain my writing piece to myself because I practised it every time I did a piece of writing. I just need to practise them every time I do some writing.

My new goal ladder on reading

I have achieved the first goal and I just need to make a little bit more progress on the second goal. I read plenty at home so it should be easy to do that one and the rest of the ladder. It should be easy to complete the rest of the little goals to get to the main goal.

My biography

This week in Toroa we have been working on our biography for our inquiry topic this term. We chose a person to do it on and I chose Meghan Markle.

Maori flashcards

On Friday the 22nd of March, Toroa students did some flashcards for some Maori words that we have been learning on Friday at Maori time. Mr Flanagon a student teacher that has been teaching us Maori on a Friday.

My Pepeha

Last week in Toroa we have been doing our own Pepeha. We did it to tell and show others about ourselves and family. It was really fun to do and I learnt lots from it.

Word Art

This week in Toroa we have been creating word arts, to help us in writing. We did these because there are some words that are so plain and boring so we could use better and detailed words to make our writing more interesting.

Camp reflection

This is my 5r's camp reflection. We did this on the marshland 5r's and how we did them with some photos.

My graffiti name

This is my graffiti, Brick. In week three we were asked to complete a graffitied brick like this example. We had to do big letters so I chose block letters and we had to color the letters and the background in once we had finished the letters.

My goal Ladder

In week 2 of term 1, I wrote the goals that I had from the end of term 4 2018. This term I will see how I have tried to complete these goals.

The Marshland 5 r's

Tena Koutou everybody, this week Toroa have been learning all about the 5' rs. My group and I created a DLO-Digital Learning Object and we chose to do a Google Slide.
